Basketball is a complete and perfect game. Besides improving power and strength, basketball also improves people’s ability to cooperate with others as well as they deal with themselves. Individual skill is as important as the team work. So, the concept of 1 on 1 basketball is presented. Playing basketball will be fun if you do it in teams. However, playing with a single opponent will be a great chance to improve the skill too.
Triple Threat Position
In practicing 1 on 1 basketball exercise, you will be familiar with triple threat position. There are shoot, pass, or dribble. It refers to three basketball basic skills like shooting, passing and dribbling. You will focus on one of them and push your power on it, shooting. The term will be renewed into shoot, shoot, and shoot. You must set your shooting position anytime you can get the ball. The next thing to do is facing the basket and shooting the ball. This is an ultimate individual defense.
Don’t Overuse Dribble
When you are practicing 1 on 1 basketball drill, you may overuse your dribble. This game focuses on aggressiveness and purpose. So, make sure that you do it anything in purpose. Just dribble your ball once as you need it. Make sure that your dribble is long, hard and purposeful when it gets on the floor. Make sure that you are straight at the basket before shooting.
Consider the Angle
The angle is a factor that determines the chance to score. It works for either team game or 1 on 1 basketball. Pay attention to the angle you are in. The angle will determine how effective and efficient the dribble you perform will be. Anytime you are at the right angle, you will have a good movement and speed. You can be quicker and more aggressive.
Follow this exercise to improve the offense to 1 on 1. You can read the defender so you can have an appropriate move. You will need a chair as a property for 1 on 1 basketball. Get the players in 2 lines. Arrange the position, equal to the lane line and above foul line. You will need to put the chair above the foul line and between the lane lines. Make sure that the seat faces the basket. Put a ball on the chair. The first player in each line must sprint and touch the baseline in the lane center anytime the coach commands to start. Later, the player must get back to the chair quickly. The offense is the first player while the defense is the other. The game begins.
There are three teaching points of this skill. It will set the offensive player to be more aggressive. It is because all he thinks is shoot anytime he faces the basket. Lay-up will be reinforced if any player dribbles the ball. Therefore, the dribbles should be limited. Each player must be able to score with only one dribble.
Stay in Control
There are some important points you must keep in mind when you are facing 1 on 1 basketball. Staying in control becomes the first and foremost thing to think. By staying in control, you can confuse the defender. Your movement is unpredictable. Make sure that the ball is dribbled low. Use your fingers to do it. It is the way to protect and secure the ball. Fingertips are the best part to control the ball. Make sure that your head is always up so you can be aware of the defender.
Having the effective tactics is important in 1 on 1 basketball. You can do crossover dribble or spin the ball or step jump shot. Confidence is the key in basketball as well as in the other sport. Each of us has a special ability, so be confident about it. Your confidence will appear in your eyes and performance. You can hardly realize that it scares your opponent. Just do the best and believe in your ability. It works for the team as well as for 1 on 1 game. Once you think you are less than other, you will lose your chance.
